On Thursday 22 July, the Greater Washington Chapter’s Alumni Softball Team, the Navy Yard Dawgs, set a team record for runs scored as they routed the Jayhawks of Kansas, 42-10 in five innings. Although the offensive heroics were too numerous to note in detail, Loren Morgan ‘01 smashed three homeruns, two of them in the second inning. Ed Malinowski ’02 had a homerun and two grounds rule doubles that would have been homeruns on most other fields. Representing the more “seasoned” alumni, Lee Geanuleas ’77 contributed a grandslam homerun in the third inning. Pitchers Loren Morgan and Christine Weaver ’71 combined efforts for the win.

 

At 7-5 on the season, Navy faces the Texas Longhorns on Saturday 24 July and then concludes regular season play against Vanderbilt on Friday 30 July.
