Dear
Shipmates;
Your Chapter Board of Directors and Trustee RADM
Pierce Johnson are following closely the issues of reduction of
annual issues of Shipmate and the process, or lack
thereof, by which this decision was taken. We conducted a poll
on the Chapter website when the issue was first announced. The
response to this poll among members of our Chapter on whether
they agreed to the reduction of issues of Shipmate were
48 yes, 218 no and 8 had no opinion. We thank all of you who
responded to this poll.
As President of the USNAAA-GWC I sent a letter on
26 February 2009 to Admiral Trost, Chairman of the USNA Alumni
Association Board of Trustees and to Mr. Byron Marchant,
President and CEO of the USNA Alumni Association that expressed
our members' concerns. The letter pointed out our members'
issues with the reduction of Shipmates without
discussion with membership, most of the Board of Trustees,
Chapter Presidents and the Council of Class Presidents. We
suggested that members be given an “opt out” choice of
receiving Shipmate electronically instead of the hard copy
version.
We understand that fiscal issues were a key part of
the decision on the reduction of the issues of Shipmate. It is
the continued lack of communication from the Board of Trustees
and Mr. Marchant that we continue to address.
Go Navy!
Sincerely,
Jim
